Banner vs Engine vs Unique — How to Read a Relic Offer

Learn to read Guildrun relic shops by name role and conditions — when banners, engines, filigrees, and Uniques are real spikes versus Shard traps.

Updated Aug 4, 2026

The relic shop in Guildrun is noisy on purpose. Rarity looks like power; conditions are power. This guide teaches you to read an offer in Demo 0.5.7 the way a strong run does: name role → keyword → trigger frequency → then rarity.

Pair it with:

  • Shop order — whether a relic should beat Rank/Item this screen
  • Fight-loss checklist — if you are buying to fix a wipe
  • Relics database — effect text, tags, and Shop decision notes on each page
  • Keywords — what your board can actually trigger

The 10-second read

For every relic on offer, answer in order:

  1. What is its job title? (banner, engine, filigree/prism, amplifier, conduit/stacker, quest/boost, enemy reference)
  2. Which keywords or classes does it pay?
  3. How often will that trigger in my next three fights?
  4. Is the rarity charging me for a condition I do not meet?

If step 3 is “rarely,” skip — even if step 4 says Unique.

Name roles (what the title is trying to tell you)

Guildrun relic names are not random flavor. Patterns repeat across classes. Treat them as role labels.

Banner — class or identity flag

Usually means: “Commit to this class / fantasy.” Endurance, Patience, Outbreak, Greed-style banners want a real density of that class or keyword, not a single tourist hero.

Take when: You already have two pieces of the fantasy (heroes + another enabler) or the banner is the missing enabler for a committed board.

Skip when: You own one Assassin and the rest is Mage soup. Banners punish dabbling.

Engine — fight-to-fight loop

Usually means: A payoff machine (Shield loops, Ambush executes, Bloodshield-style sustain). Engines want repetition: every combat, not once per act.

Take when: The loop’s fuel is already on the board (hits taken, kills, Rush procs, casts).

Skip when: You are hoping the engine will create the kills or Shields by itself.

Filigree / Prism — power spike modules

Usually means: Mid–late amplifiers once the identity exists. They raise a working plan; they rarely invent one.

Take when: Banner/engine (or hero kit) already fires and you need a spike for a hard node.

Skip when: You still fail the fight-loss opener or keyword checklist.

Amplifier — clean multipliers

Usually means: Broad martial or defensive multipliers. Flexible, but still asks your board to be doing that thing.

Take when: You have a simple Attack / Defense / keyword plan and need a reliable bump.

Skip when: You need a specialist enabler, not another generic multiplier.

Conduit / Accumulator / stacker — frequency junkies

Usually means: Value scales with how often a keyword triggers across the run or fight.

Take when: Your board is a machine gun for that tag (Rush every fight, kills every fight).

Skip when: Triggers are spiky or accidental.

Ascendancy / late Unique spikes

Usually means: Luxury ceilings. High ceiling, high greed risk.

Take when: The run is already stable and the Unique’s condition is your main verb.

Skip when: Act pressure is still punishing your opener. Stabilize first (shop order).

Quest / LegendaryQuest

Usually means: Power gated behind a quest or unlock line.

Take when: You can realistically finish the line this run.

Skip when: The quest is a second job you will not play. Dead quests are expensive paperweights.

SingleBattleBoost

Usually means: Short-horizon power for the next hard fight.

Take when: You need to survive this spike node.

Skip when: You needed run-long scaling and just bought a sugar high.

Enemy / ActBoss entries

Usually means: Encounter documentation in the database — not a normal draft pickup. Use them to plan formation and sustain, not as shop greed.

Rarity is a price tag, not a skill score

Rough mental model for Demo shops:

| Rarity signal | Treat it as | Common mistake | | --- | --- | --- | | Common / Rare | Enabler budget | Ignoring them for “worse” Epics | | Epic | Real plan piece | Taking off-plan Epics for loot dopamine | | Legendary / Unique | Ceiling or identity lock | Early Unique with dead conditions | | Quest / Boost | Conditional tools | Buying the sticker, not the schedule |

A Common Rush enabler that fires every fight beats a Unique on-kill piece you proc twice per act.

Keyword honesty check

Open the relic tags and ask the rude questions:

  • Rush — Who starts Rush windows every combat? (Rush hub)
  • Stall — Do fights last long enough for Stall payoffs? (Stall)
  • Crit — Do we stack Crit, or is this a random adjective? (Crit)
  • Shield / Heal — Who generates Shields, or are we hoping the relic alone tanks?
  • Class tags — Do we have a real Warrior / Assassin / Mystic core, or one badge?

If you cannot answer without coping, the offer is not for this board.

Worked comparisons

Offer A: Assassin banner vs shiny Unique Crit

You have two Assassins and shaky Rush. The banner extends Assassin Rush. The Unique needs kills you do not secure yet.

Read: Banner is the enabler; Unique is a future spike. Take the banner (or Rank/placement first if openers fail).

Offer B: Stall Shield engine vs Rush Ascendancy

Your board is Nyx / Irini Rush race. Stall engine wants long fights.

Read: Off-tempo. Skip even if rarity is higher. Buy Rush support or Rank the carry.

Offer C: Filigree when banner already online

You already trigger the class keyword every fight. Challenge node next.

Read: Filigree/prism is correct spike timing. This is what mid rarities are for.

Offer D: LegendaryQuest with no quest progress

Read: Skip unless the unlock is trivial from here. Quest text is part of the price.

How to use relic pages on this site

On any relic detail page:

  1. Read the effect once for triggers (on kill, on Rush, allies, permanent stacks).
  2. Read Shop decision — Best for / Skip when / Shop note — as the short verdict.
  3. Skim Synergies for tags you already own, not as a shopping list of everything shiny.
  4. Only then compare rarity.

That loop is faster than memorizing 400 names.

FAQ

Are all banners good?

No. Banners are good on committed boards and bad as souvenirs. One class hero does not pay a banner.

Should I ever take a Unique early?

When it is your enabler or the only stabilizer available — uncommon. Most early Uniques are skip-when traps with prestige lighting.

What if two offers both match my keywords?

Prefer the one with the higher trigger rate on your current board, then the one that fixes the next node (survive vs spike). Rarity breaks ties last.

Enemy relics show up in the database — can I draft them?

Treat Enemy / ActBoss rows as reference for what packs do. Your shop priority stays on draftable engines, banners, and enablers.

Does this replace looking at builds?

Builds suggest a target relic set. This guide stops you from grabbing the right names at the wrong time or with the wrong conditions.
